Quick Start

LocalSend is a cross-platform app that enables secure communication between devices using a REST API and HTTPS encryption. Unlike other messaging apps that rely on external servers, LocalSend doesn't require an internet connection or third-party servers, making it a fast and reliable solution for local communication.

Setup

In most cases, LocalSend should work out of the box. However, if you are having trouble sending or receiving files, you may need to configure your firewall to allow LocalSend to communicate over your local network.

Also make sure to disable AP isolation on your router. It should be usually disabled by default but some routers may have it enabled (especially guest networks). See troubleshooting for more information.

Portable Mode

(Introduced in v1.13.0)

Create a file named settings.json located in the same directory as the executable. This file can be empty. The app will use this file to store settings instead of the default location.

Start hidden

(Updated in v1.15.0)

To start the app hidden (only in tray), use the --hidden flag (example: localsend_app.exe --hidden).

On v1.14.0 and earlier, the app starts hidden if autostart flag is set, and the hidden setting is enabled.

How It Works

LocalSend uses a secure communication protocol that allows devices to communicate with each other using a REST API. All data is sent securely over HTTPS, and the TLS/SSL certificate is generated on the fly on each device, ensuring maximum security.

Getting Started

To compile LocalSend from the source code, follow these steps:

Install Flutter directly or using fvm (see version required)
Install Rust
Clone the LocalSend repository
Run cd app to enter the app directory
Run flutter pub get to download dependencies
Run flutter run to start the app

Note

LocalSend currently requires an older Flutter version (specified in .fvmrc) and thus build issues may be caused by a mismatch between the required and the (system-wide) installed Flutter version.
To make development more consistent, LocalSend uses fvm to manage the project Flutter version. After installing fvm, run fvm flutter instead of flutter.

We welcome contributions from anyone interested in helping improve LocalSend. If you'd like to contribute, there are a few ways to get involved:

Translation

You can help translate LocalSend into other languages. We use the Weblate platform to manage translations.

Alternatively, you can also contribute by forking this repository and adding translations manually.

The translations are located in the app/assets/i18n directory. Edit the _missing_translations_<locale>.json or strings_<locale>.i18n.json file to add or update translations.

Take note: Fields decorated with @ are not meant to be translated; they are not used in the app in any way, being merely informative text about the file or to give context to the translator.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Bug Fixes: If you find a bug, please create a pull request with a clear description of the issue and how to fix it.
Improvements: Have an idea for how to improve LocalSend? Please create an issue first to discuss why the improvement is needed.

Why Are We Building This?

Notion has been our favourite project and knowledge management tool in recent years because of its aesthetic appeal and functionality. Our team uses it daily, and we are on its paid plan. However, as we all know, Notion has its limitations. These include weak data security and poor compatibility with mobile devices. Likewise, alternative collaborative workplace management tools also have their constraints.

The limitations we encountered using these tools and our past work experience with collaborative productivity tools have led to our firm belief that there is a glass ceiling on what's possible for these tools in the future. This emanates from the fact that these tools will probably struggle to scale horizontally at some point and be forced to prioritize a proportion of customers whose needs differ from the rest. While decision-makers want a workplace OS, it is impossible to come up with a one-size fits all solution in such a fragmented market.

When a customer's evolving core needs are not satisfied, they either switch to another or build one from the ground up, in-house. Consequently, they either go under another ceiling or buy an expensive ticket to learn a hard lesson. This is a requirement for many resources and expertise, building a reliable and easy-to-use collaborative tool, not to mention the speed and native experience. The same may apply to individual users as well.

All these restrictions necessitate our mission - to make it possible for anyone to create apps that suit their needs well.

To individuals, we would like to offer Notion's functionality, data security, and cross-platform native experience.
To enterprises and hackers, AppFlowy is dedicated to offering building blocks and collaboration infra services to enable you to make apps on your own. Moreover, you have 100% control of your data. You can design and modify AppFlowy your way, with a single codebase written in Flutter and Rust supporting multiple platforms armed with long-term maintainability.

We decided to achieve this mission by upholding the three most fundamental values:

Reliable native experience
Community-driven extensibility

We do not claim to outperform Notion in terms of functionality and design, at least for now. Besides, our priority doesn't lie in more functionality at the moment. Q: 为什么少数番剧中有广告？

A: 本项目未插入任何广告。广告来自视频源, 请不要相信广告中的任何内容, 并尽量选择没有广告的视频源观看。

Q: 为什么我启用超分辨率功能后播放卡顿？

A: 超分辨率功能对 GPU 性能要求较高, 如果没有在高性能独立显卡上运行 Kazumi, 尽量选择效率档而非质量档。对低分辨率视频源而非高分辨率视频源使用超分也可以降低性能消耗。

Q: 为什么播放视频时内存占用较高？

A: 本程序在视频播放时, 会尽可能多地缓存视频到内存, 以提供较好的观看体验。如果您的内存较为紧张, 可以在播放设置选项卡启用低内存模式, 这将限制缓存。

Q: 为什么少数番剧无法通过外部播放器观看？

A: 部分视频源的番剧使用了反盗链措施, 这可以被 Kazumi 解决, 但无法被外部播放器解决。

Q: 为什么下载的 Linux 版本缺少图标和托盘功能？

A: 使用 .deb 版本进行安装, tar.gz 版本仅为方便二次打包, 这一格式先天缺乏图标和托盘功能支持。

Q: 为什么我的自定义规则无法实现检索？

A: 目前我们对 Xpath 语法的支持并不完整, 我们目前只支持以 // 开头的选择器。建议参照我们给出的示例规则构建自定义规则。

Q: 为什么我的自定义规则可以实现检索, 但不能实现观看？

A: 尝试关闭自定义规则的使用内置播放器选项, 这将尝试使用 webview 进行播放, 提高兼容性。但在内置播放器可用时, 建议启用内置播放器, 以获得更加流畅并带有弹幕的观看体验。

Q: 我在尝试自行编译该项目, 但编译没有成功。

A: 本项目编译需要良好的网络环境, 除了由 Google 托管的 Flutter 相关依赖外, 本项目同样依赖托管在 MavenCentral/Github/SourceForge 上的资源。如果您位于中国大陆, 可能需要设置恰当的镜像地址。

Extensible and open model

Flutter works with any development tool (or none at all), and also includes editor plug-ins for both Visual Studio Code and IntelliJ / Android Studio. Flutter provides tens of thousands of packages to speed your development, regardless of your target platform. And accessing other native code is easy, with support for both FFI (on Android, on iOS, on macOS, and on Windows) as well as platform-specific APIs.

Releasing

Only for members of lichess team.

Bump the pubspec.yaml version number. This can be in a PR making a change or a separate PR. Use semantic versioning to determine which part to increment. The version number after the + should also be incremented. For example 0.3.3+000303 with a patch should become 0.3.4+000304.

📥 Installation

Download the latest version from the Releases Page.

🤖 Android / Android TV

Download the skystream-android-arm64-v8a-v2.3.2.apk (recommended for most modern phones) or skystream-android-armeabi-v7a-v2.3.2.apk (for TV) from Releases.
Open the file and tap Install.
- Note: You may need to allow "Install from Unknown Sources" in your browser settings.
Open SkyStream and install extensions via Settings > Extensions.

🍏 iOS (Sideloading)

SkyStream is not on the App Store. You must sideload it using a computer.

Requirements:

A Computer (Windows or macOS)
Impactor (Free and OpenSource) or Sideloadly (Free)
iTunes (if on Windows)

Guide

Steps:

Download skystream-ios-unsigned-v2.3.2.ipa from the Releases Page.
Open Impactor or Sideloadly on your computer.
Connect your iPhone/iPad via USB.
Drag the .ipa file into the Sideloadly window.
Enter your Apple ID in the configured field.
Click Start.
Once finished, the app will appear on your home screen.
On your device, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, tap your email, and select Trust.
Set up Wi-Fi sync to automatically refresh your apps in the background

💻 Windows / macOS / Linux

Download the appropriate file for your OS (skystream-windows.exe, skystream-macos.dmg, skystream-linux.deb, etc.).
Install the app.
Run the application from your app launcher or terminal.
- macOS Note: If you see an “Unidentified Developer” warning, go to Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway to allow the app (one-time step).
- Linux Note: You may need to install the following packages:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y clang cmake ninja-build pkg-config libgtk-3-dev liblzma-dev libmpv-dev libasound2-dev
```

FAQ

How do I install extensions?

SkyStream uses `.sky` or `.js` extension files. You can install them by navigating to Settings > Extensions > Add Repository and entering a repository URL (e.g., using a shortcode).

Where is the media stored?

SkyStream is a streaming client and does not host any content. All media is streamed directly from the third-party extensions you install.
